WHAT I LEARNED AFTER APPLYING FOR 100 GIGS IN 10 DAYS ON LINKEDIN

What I learned after applying for 100 gigs in 10 days on LinkedIn

What I intend to share with you is what I learned after applying for 100 gigs in 10 days on LinkedIn.

First off, it seemed like something that was a bit difficult to do. Really difficult, but I guess whenever there is a will, there will always be a way.

I had ran out of connects on Upwork, and I had equally ran out of job. I rarely use LinkedIn, but I had people who always testified that LinkedIn works for them.

The good thing is, you didn’t need connects for LinkedIn; where as in Upwork, you needed connects to apply for jobs. And trust me, connects are getting expensive.

They were cheaper two years ago. Also, the dollar to naira rate was fair enough. Matter of fact, two years ago, you didn’t need a dollar card to purchase connects on Upwork. Your naira MasterCard would work.

The Central Bank of Nigeria placed a ban on the MasterCard not doing beyond $20 in a month, as at March 2022.

Then gradually, they banned you from using Naira Cards for Dollar transactions. So to buy whatever in dollar, meant you had to source for the dollar.

Pardon my detour, back to you. So, out of jobs, out of connects and in no mood to get new connects until I got new income.

It was either Fiverr, LinkedIn or go home. I hate Fiverr, still don’t like it; and I wasn’t going home empty-handed. So LinkedIn it was.

I realized that people complained that there are no jobs, but it isn’t possible that I would apply for 100 jobs in 10 days and wouldn’t get a few.

The job to proposal ratio on Upwork is 1 in 10. So I did my math and figured, no way I won’t be getting a number of gigs if I applied for 100 in 10 days.

That would be intense but that would be it.

After first three days, I had sent in over 30 applications and it was just rejections upon rejections. I wondered if I could continue.

I didn’t plan to go for a break but it so happened that day was a Sunday, I just had to let it be, because what was that wave of rejection mails? Was I that bad?

By Monday, I had resumed my gym and playing my morning podcast; and with them, came the reminder I had to see this through and so I resumed for day 4.

By the 4th day, I started getting a few look ins, by the 8th day I was having several interviews. I could have stopped, but I promised myself I must finish! I must finish!!

By the 9th day, I had 2 gigs already. I had failed some other interviews. But I had started one already and was about to sublet another.

Day 10 had to be the highest, cos I had no motivation that I would get any response from any proposals. It felt like I already gotten a response.

But I wasn’t going to let myself off the hook, and so I applied. By the end of the 10th day, I had applied for 100 jobs and had started a gig, and was in the negotiations for another.

Point is, when you are in a state of “no-job”. You need to do this, you need to go out there guns blazing. No way you won’t secure one.

All you’ve got to do is fix your profile. Once profile is fixed, and you apply for gigs that you are 100% qualified for. Trust me, trust me, you’d get the gigs.
